Shanul Sharma

February 15th – 28th | Shanul Sharma as Count Almaviva in Rossini’s The Barber of Seville at Sydney Opera House

A cornerstone of comic opera, Rossini’s The Barber of Seville takes center stage at the Sydney Opera House in a visually captivating and musically vibrant production.

Count Almaviva, portrayed by our Shanul Sharma, is determined to win the heart of the witty and charming Rosina, played by Helen Sherman. With the help of Figaro, the resourceful barber and schemer extraordinaire, a series of clever disguises and antics unfold, delivering two-and-a-half hours of sparkling melodies and timeless comedy.

Directed by the late Elijah Moshinsky, this production transforms the opera into a 1920s silent film-inspired spectacle. At the heart of the stage is a life-sized dollhouse, adding a unique visual charm to the show. Under the baton of conductor Daniel Smith, the Opera Australia Orchestra and Chorus bring Rossini’s playful and energetic score to life.
