Massimo Longhi has been the principal trumpet of the Arena di Verona Orchestra Foundation since 1993. He completed his musical and artistic studies in Milan at the Giuseppe VerdiConservatory under Giuseppe Bodanza, the historic principal trumpet of the Teatro alla Scala. At the age of 17, he performed for the first time with the Teatro alla Scala Orchestra in Verdi’s Requiem conducted by Claudio Abbado.
As a principal trumpet, he has participated in productions with the Filarmonica della Scala, Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, Orchestra A. Toscanini di Parma, I Solisti Veneti, and I Pomeriggi Musicali, collaborating with conductors such as Riccardo Muti, Daniele Gatti, Lorin Maazel, Georges Prêtre, Daniel Oren, Claudio Scimone, and Myung-Whun Chung.
As a soloist, he has performed the most important trumpet concertos in the repertoire, including the world premiere of a concerto dedicated to him by Marco Fasoli, published by the music house Sonzogno.
He is a trumpet professor at the Conservatory of Bergamo. In 2016, the publishing house Notami released his studying method book, “Suona la Tromba” (“Play the Trumpet”).
He is the Artistic Director of the Ettore Pozzoli Philharmonic, which promotes music among young people by organizing courses, performance, and composition competitions, as well as youth orchestras.
He has also dedicated himself to conducting, debuting at the Teatro Sociale di Como with the renowned tenor Marco Berti.
In 2024, Massimo took on a new role in arts management by becoming a part of Only Stage Ltd.
