biography
The orchestra of I Virtuosi Italiani, born in 1989, is one of the most active and qualified formations in the international music scene, regularly invited to the most important theaters, festivals and seasons all around the world. They are recognized with a particular aptitude for creating innovative projects, constant research in various languages, in addition to the excellent artistic quality demonstrated over years of activity.
I Virtuosi Italiani have numerous collaborations with worldwide famous soloists and conductors. They collaborated on the staging of Stravinsky's Apollon Musagete with the New York City Ballet; in 2001 they performed all of Rossini's one-act operas for the Paris Opera Comique and held two concerts at the Konzerthaus in Vienna.
I Virtuosi Italiani have performed in the most important theaters and for the main Italian musical institutions such as the Teatro alla Scala, the Teatro La Fenice, the National Academy of Santa Cecilia, the GOG of Genoa, the Unione Musicale of Turin, the University Institution of Concerts in Rome, the Teatro alla Pergola in Florence, the Philharmonic Society of Rome, the Rossini Theater in Pesaro, the Quartet Society of Milan and many others.
Among the most relevant performances of the last years we highlight the concert for the Senate of the Republic of Italy – broadcasted live on RAI 1; the “Concert for Life and Peace” – performed in Rome, Betlehem and Jerusalem and broadcasted worldwide on RAI 1; a concert in the Sala Nervi of Vatican City in presence of the Pope.
Recently "Arte Concert Klassik" recorded a live concert of I Virtuosi Italiani, with Wayne Marshall, soloist from the Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza, for the 1600th anniversary of the foundation of Venice.
There are also numerous tours abroad, with concerts in the most prestigious musical venues: France (Festival Pablo Casals of Prades, Festival Berlioz, Aix-en-Provence, Bordeaux), Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, England (London Royal Albert Hall), Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Finland, Slovenia (Ljubljana International Festival), Russia (St. Petersburg Philharmonic Hall, Moscow Great Hall of the Tchaikovsky Conservatory, Tchaikovsky Hall of the Philharmonic), Turkey, Iran, Korea, United States of America (New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia), Baltic countries.
The discography of I Virtuosi Italiani includes more than 50 CDs for well-known recording houses and over 400.000 records sold around the world.
The last recording for the Dutsche Grammophon, dedicated to a monograph by Morten Lauridsen, was released in September 2018. In June 2019 it received the Opus Classic Awards 2019, the most important prize for classical music in Germany.
In 2018 I Virtuosi Italiani released a CD with the famous overtures from Rossini's operas devoted to the 150th anniversary of his death.
In December 2021 they have been awarded with the Diapason D'Or De L'annee 2021, conducted by Corrado Rovaris, with the dynamic tenor duo of Lawrence Brownlee and Michael Spyres, for the CD Warner Classics - Erato, entitled "Amici & Rivali", dedicated to Rossini.
