In the mid eighties, Giorgio Barbolini started his entrepreneurial career, carrying on simultaneously his activities as musician which he completely left only in 1995. He started his career in the classical music management and then he expanded in other show business areas in the following years.
He studied at the Conservatory of Music in Bologna and he graduated in Organ and Organ Composition at the age of twenty, becoming one of the younger graduate in this discipline in the story of the same Conservatory. In the same years he studied Composition, Harpsichord and Choir Conduction.
At a very early age, he attended seminars and masters in Italy and in Europe with Luigi Ferdinando Tagliavini, Anton Heiller, Michail Radulescu, Piet Kee, Ton Koopman and Kenneth Gilbert.
He also started very young a brilliant career as musician. He played his first organ concert at the age of 17 and in 1979, after a course in Basso Continuo at Amelia, in Umbria, he’s been invited to be part of the Trio Barocco Italiano in the role of harpsichord player. He went on with both these activities (organ and harpsichord player) till mid nineties, playing more than 1.000 concerts as solo artist, in ensembles and orchestras.
Some of his concerts has been held at “Serate Musicali di Milano”, Salle Gaveau in Paris, Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), Barbican Center (London), “Settimane Frescobaldiane” (Ferrara), “Festival di Musica Antica” (Urbino).
He has collaborated with such famous artists as Giuliano Carmignola, Franco Gulli, Katia Ricciarelli, Eduard Melkus, Mischa Maisky, Fabio Biondi, Cecilia Gasdia and Kurt Equiluz.
Between eighties and nineties, he also wrote music for theatre, inspired by his teacher Teo Usuelli, composer of musical scores for movies and television.
He published chamber music records for the labels Tactus, Decca, Pierre Verany Disques.
In 1981 he was offered a chair at the Conservatory and he kept it till 2016. He taught Gregorian chant, Organ and Organ Composition, Music Theory, Tuning, Basso Continuo, Improvisation, at the Conservatories in Pescara, Pesaro, Piacenza, Modena, La Spezia, Mantua.
From 1991 to 1999 he’s been director of the Music Chapel of Duomo in Modena, where he created 3 choirs, a music school and some organ music festivals.
In 1985 he founded his first show business agency, Modena International Music, specialised in classical music. He started with the management of solo artists, conductors and ensembles. Soon the agency started to produce orchestra tours. He left in 1990.
In 1998, together with Giulia Dondi, he founded Studiomusica s.r.l., one of the major show business agencies in Italy, becoming the General Manager and the CEO. Among the represented artists and the collaborations there are: Daniil Trifonov, Julian Rachlin, Natalia Gutman, Sir James Galway, Sergej Nakariakov, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Philippe Entremont, Andrei Gavrilov, Uto Ughi, Michele Campanella, Quartetto Borodin, Canterbury Cathedral Choir, Choir of Trinity College Cambridge, Ortodox Patriarchy Choir in Moscow, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra, Moscow Virtuosi, Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, London Mozart Players, Festival Strings Lucerne, I Musici, Wiener Kammerorchester, Orchestre National du Capitol de Toulouse, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Freiburger Barockorchester, La Petite Band e Sigiswald Kuijken, London Baroque, The Netherland Bach Society and so many others.
Lately Studiomusica has expanded its areas beyond classical music: world music, pop, jazz, crossover, with artists as Bobby Mc Ferrin, Al Jarreau, Al Di Meola, Take 6, The Manhattan Trasfer, Randy Crawford, George Benson, Hugh Masakela, Herbie Hancock, Toquinho, Tony Hadley, Gloria Gaynor, Igudesman & Joo, Chanticleer...
Studiomusica has worked with almost all the Italian operators and manage concerts and festivals all around Europe (France, Germany, Spain, Holland, United Kingdom), in Russia, China and Latin American.
In 2010 Giorgio Barbolini founded an American Company, Italian Music Center – BaGS Live US (DBA), which manages Italian cultural events in US, such as two Gala Dinner for Andrea Bocelli Foundation (December, 9, 2011 at Beverly Hilton Hotel; June, 13 2013 at Paramount Studios). Some important collaborations with Italian brands are in progress (Damiani, Bulgari, Lamborghini). Some great events have been managed in China: Skorpions concert (80.000 spectators), Nile Rodgers and Demi Lovato. The format “Sotto le Stelle a Beverly Hills” has been produced in partnership with FIAT, Berlucchi, Ferrarelle, Danesi Cafè and Ferrarini. He’s President and CEO of the Company.
In 2011 he founded BaGS Entertainment together with Paolo Scotti and Antonio Gnecchi Ruscone, a new agency including all the areas of the show business. The Group, managed by Giulia Dondi, has as its main goal the Internationalization of its activity.
BaGS Entertainment and the affiliated BaGS Live, managed some very important events such as the Italian tour of the musical "Cats" (the original UK version), the Italian production of Newsies (the musical, under special agreement with Disney Theatrical Group), the tours of Parsons Dance, Mark Morris, Daniel Ezralow and many others, in Italy and in Europe. BaGS operates also in the music area: as for example the collaborations with George Benson, Tony Hadley, Skin, Jmes Morrison, Al Jarrau, Manhattan Transfer, Gloria Gaynor and many Italian artists.
In 2014, Studiomusica Hungary has been founded in Budapest. Three people works in the Company and they manage the import and export of cultural, music and theatre projects.
In 2015 a Public Company has been founded, WEC (World Entertainment Company Spa) which operated in the show business world, with 30 employees. Giorgio Barbolini has been its President until 2020. Some of the most important WEC productions have been: Newsies, the musical, in collaboration with Disney Theatrical Group NY; Mary Poppins, the musical, which was staged for 7 months in Milan and 3 months in Rome, selling over 270,000 tickets; Cats, West Side Story, Staatsballet Berlin and Evita.
