biography
Lin Daye serves as Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Wuxi Symphony Orchestra, Professor in the Composition and Conducting Department at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Visiting Professor of the School of Music at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the China Conservatory of Music, and Tianjin Conservatory of Music. Additionally, he is a core member of the Shanghai Municipal Innovation Team for "First-Class Orchestra Talent Cultivation and Practice". He is a board member of the China Musicians Association and a member of the Shanghai Youth Federation. Lin has been honored with numerous accolades, including the He Luting Art Achievement Awards in 2020 and 2022, the Young Performing Artist Award by the National Arts Fund in 2020, and the First Prize at the 6th Georg Solti International Conducting Competition in 2012. In 2023, he was named one of Shenzhen's Top Ten Outstanding Youths.
Born in 1980, Lin studied under the guidance of Professor Xu Xin at the Central Conservatory of Music, Professor Zhang Guoyong at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and Professor Christian Ehwald at the the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin, where he earned Germany’s highest Konzertexam certificate. Since 2009, he has served as Resident Conductor of the Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra. From 2010 to 2015, he was Principal Conductor of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, participating in numerous domestic and international tours. In 2012, Lin distinguished himself at the 6th Sir Georg Solti International Conducting Competition in Frankfurt, Germany, becoming the first Chinese winner of this prestigious award. In the same year, he was also awarded the "Outstanding Musician of Guangdong Province Special Contribution Award" by the Guangdong Musicians Association.
In September 2015, Lin returned to teach in the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, where he is currently a Conducting Professor in the Department of Composition and Conducting.
In May 2016, he officially assumed the role of Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra. Since then, he has led the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra in numerous domestic and international performances, visiting countries and regions including Germany, the United States, Italy, Romania, Slovenia, Canada, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, and Hungary, etc. He has participated in significant international music festivals such as the Ljubljana Festival, Radiro - International Radio Orchestras Festival, Emilia Romagna Festival, Merano Festival, Donizetti Festival, Festival delle Nazioni and the Shanghai Spring International Music Festival in China.
In March 2023, Lin participated in the establishment of the Wuxi Symphony Orchestra, working as Artistic Director and Chief Conductor. The Wuxi Symphony made its debut and 2024 New Year’s Concert under his baton in 1 January 2024. Afterwards, Lin led the Wuxi Symphony Ensemble on a tour of the United Kingdom (Manchester and London) and Japan (Tokyo and Kyoto) for cultural exchanges.
Lin is also frequently invited to conduct renowned orchestras both domestically and internationally, earning widespread acclaim. In March 2024, he led the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra on a tour of the United Kingdom, garnering unanimous praise from critics and audiences alike.
