Cellist Yibai Chen joins Only Stage management’s roster!
Yibai Chen is rapidly emerging as one of the most promising cellists of his generation, having won multiple top international cello competitions, including the prestigious Queen Elisabeth, Lutoslawski, George Enescu, and Tchaikovsky Cello Competitions.
Since his 2022 Queen Elisabeth win, he has performed internationally, including with the Belgian National Orchestra and Basel Symphony. The 2023/24 season features tours in Europe and China, performing works by Shostakovich, Martinu, and others. In the 2022/23 season, he debuted with the Janacek Philharmonic and China Philharmonic. His repertoire spans classical and contemporary composers. Born in Shanghai in 2001, he studied in Shanghai and Berlin, now at Music Academy Basel. He plays a Joseph Guadagnini cello (ca. 1780-1800).
