biography
Lada Kyssy is an acclaimed Kazakhstani soprano whose powerful voice and dramatic stage presence have captivated audiences around the world.
In 2025, Lada took on the title role of Katerina Ismailova in Dmitri Shostakovich’s Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk Districtat the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City and she is scheduled to perform the iconic role of Turandot in Puccini’s masterpiece at the Teatro Metropolitano in Medellín, Colombia.
Her 2024 season was marked by a highly praised “jump-in” performance as Amelia in Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera at the Cologne Opera under the baton of Maestro Giuliano Carella. The year before, in 2023, she portrayed Elisabetta in Don Carlo by Verdi in Heidenheim, Germany, conducted by Marcus Bosch.
Lada’s interpretation of Amelia has been a recurring success: she performed the role in Tirana in 2022 and previously in several productions between 2019 and 2023, including at the Oldenburgisches Staatstheater. There, she also sang the lead roles in Adriana Lecouvreur by Cilea and Rusalka by Dvořák, receiving critical acclaim for her performances under the direction of Henrik Westmann and Vito Cristofaro.
In 2019, she sang Leonora in Verdi’s Il Trovatore in Koblenz, and the previous year, she starred as Tosca at the “Gars am Kamp” Festival in Austria, conducted by Johannes Wildner. From 2015 to 2019, she was a regular guest at the Tiroler Festival Erl, where she performed major roles such as Violetta (La Traviata), Mimì (La Bohème), Abigaille (Nabucco), Mathilde (Guglielmo Tell), as well as parts in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Wagner’s Parsifal and Die Walküre, and sacred works by Bach.
Her discography includes a CD/DVD of Verdi’s Requiem recorded under Gustav Kuhn.
Lada is also a prizewinner, having received second prize at the Riccardo Zandonai competition in Riva del Garda in 2014 and a special award at the Maria Callas concert inauguration in São Paulo, Brazil.
Earlier in her career, she performed the Countess in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro in Cagliari under Hubert Soudant and Violetta in La Traviata in Medellín. From 2002 to 2011, she was a soloist at the Abay State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre in Kazakhstan, where she performed a wide repertoire including Adina, Adele, Rosina, Liu, Micaela, Tatyana, Margherita (Faust), and Marfa (The Tsar’s Bride).
Lada Kyssy has also represented Kazakhstan at numerous international events, including summit conferences of world presidents.
She studied with legendary figures such as Mirella Freni, Renata Scotto, Raina Kabaivanska, José Carreras, and many others, refining her craft in Italy. Lada speaks Italian, German, Russian, and English fluently.
Her current repertoire includes roles like Amelia (Un ballo in maschera), Elisabetta (Don Carlo), Leonora (Il Trovatore), Rusalka (Rusalka), Tatiana (Eugene Onegin), Adriana (Adriana Lecouvreur), Tosca (Tosca), Mimì (La Bohème), and Liu (Turandot), as well as soprano parts in Verdi’s Requiem and Bach’s Matthäus-Passion and Weihnachtsoratorium.
Among the roles ready for debut are Turandot, Aida, Desdemona (Otello), Amelia (Simon Boccanegra), Giorgetta (Il Tabarro), Nedda (Pagliacci), and Lisa (The Queen of Spades).
