Le fotografie inedite di Edvard Munch, provenienti dalla collezione del Museo MUNCH di Oslo, sono le protagoniste del film “SCATTI FOTOGRAFICI di Edvard Munch”. Nel 1902 l’artista norvegese acquista una Kodak e inizia a fotografare se stesso, il suo ambiente e le sue opere, dimostrando da subito piena padronanza del mezzo in tutti i suoi aspetti dall’illuminazione alla gestione della pellicola ai set fotografici. Il flusso di immagini e le parole di Munch restituiscono nel film un inedito e quasi sconosciuto racconto autobiografico dell’artista, impegnato nella costante ricerca delle forze che determinano la vita e la morte e della possibilità di fare esperienza “di un altro mondo se i nostri occhi fossero diversi”. Le fotografie immortalano il suo volto, oggetti e figure indefinite, ombre che attraversano lo spazio, scatti sovraesposti, fuori fuoco, dove l’artista tende a farsi trasparenza all’insegna di un simbolismo sperimentale. E’ una fotografia inedita per la sua epoca, che anticipa

temi e modi: dal selfie all’uso del corpo in mostra. 

Il film si avvale del prestigioso contributo di Patricia Berman, storica dell’arte e autorevole conoscitrice dell’opera di Edvard Munch. Alla presentazione saranno presenti le registe e Patricia Berman in collegamento da Oslo. Il film rientra nella programmazione della rassegna a cura della Cineteca di Milano e il NORWEGIAN CINEMA – Omaggio a Edvard Munch e al Cinema Norvegese contemporaneo, in collaborazione con l’Ambasciata di Norvegia, in occasione della mostra “Munch il grido interiore “ a Palazzo Reale di Milano.

"Photography has taught me a lot, and when I am old, my portraits will come to light."

The unpublished photographs of Edvard Munch, from the collection of the MUNCH Museum in Oslo, are the focus of the film "Edvard Munch's Photographic Shots."
In 1902, the Norwegian artist purchased a Kodak camera and began photographing himself, his surroundings, and his works, quickly mastering all aspects of photography, from lighting to film management to the creation of photographic sets.
The flow of images and Munch's words in the film reveal a unique and almost unknown autobiographical narrative of the artist, constantly seeking to explore the forces that shape life and death, and the possibility of experiencing "another world if our eyes were different."
The photographs capture his face, objects, undefined figures, shadows passing through space, overexposed and out-of-focus shots, where the artist tends to render himself transparent, embracing an experimental symbolism. This photography was unprecedented for its time, anticipating themes and techniques such as selfies and the use of the body as a subject.
The film benefits from the prestigious contribution of Patricia Berman, an art historian and authoritative expert on Edvard Munch’s work.
The directors and Patricia Berman, joining remotely from Oslo, will be present at the screening.

The film is part of the program curated by the Cineteca di Milano and NORWEGIAN CINEMA – A Tribute to Edvard Munch and Contemporary Norwegian Cinema, in collaboration with the Norwegian Embassy, marking the exhibition “Munch: The Inner Scream” at Palazzo Reale, Milan.
