Marcus Bosch is one of the most prominent and innovative minds in the German conducting scene, a sought-after guest conductor globally, and head of an extremely successful conducting class.

In 2020 Marcus Bosch was appointed chief conductor of the Norddeutschen Philharmonie Rostock. Since 2010, Bosch has been directing the Opernfestspiele Heidenheim in his hometown. He has developed it into one of the most successful classical music festivals in Europe, not least through the founding and development of the festival's own Cappella Aquileia. With him at the podium, the ensemble performs concerts and recordings of early Verdi operas, Beethoven's theatre music, and the Schumann symphonies, causing a sensation.

The Gramophone Magazine praised the Beethoven recordings as “reference recordings" and labelled Marcus Bosch as “one of the 10 leading Bruckner conductors of today” (January 2024 issue).

The conductor with Brazilian-Italian roots, awarded the "Opus Klassik" (2021 for “Medea”) had stints as a conductor at the state theatres in Wiesbaden, Halle, and Saarbrücken. He became Germany’s youngest GMD in Aachen, then served as chief conductor of the Kammerphilharmonie Graubünden, followed by GMD of the Nuremberg State Philharmonic and the State Theatre. Since 2016, he has been a highly successful professor, leading the conducting class in Munich and the university symphony orchestra.

Upcoming projects will take him to National Centre of Performing Arts in Bejijng (Der Fliegende Holländer), Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, Tiroler Landestheater (Der Rosenkavalier), Saarbrücken Radio Philharmonic, Parma (LaToscanini), Verona, Palermo, Wexford (Trovatore) and Stuttgart, among others.

Marcus Bosch has conducted over 100 orchestras worldwide, including the Semperoper and the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, and the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin. He has also worked with the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Radio-Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart, and Orchester National de Lyon, as well as various orchestras in cities such as Seville, Bilbao, and Gran Canaria, and at the opera houses in Gothenburg, Basel, Verona, and Modena. Additionally, he has developed close connections with the Hamburg State Opera, Stuttgart Philharmonic, Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana Palermo, Orquesta Sinfonica des Islas Baleares, and Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie Konstanz as principal guest conductor.

His operatic repertoire includes more than 100 musical theater works, including major projects such as Wagner's Ring tetralogy and Berlioz's Les Troyens. The live CD recordings of Anton Bruckner's symphonies with the Aachen Symphony Orchestra caused an international sensation. “An exciting listening experience,” was the verdict of Kulturspiegel, and WDR concluded that the Aachen cycle “doesn’t need to fear any prominent names.” The Brahms recordings also confirmed the outstanding quality that Bosch had achieved with the Aachen Orchestra. In Nuremberg, Marcus Bosch achieved a similar feat by recording all of Dvorák's symphonies and the symphonic poems. Klassik.com spoke of a “lucky stroke for all Dvorák fans”.

In general, the “listening seducer”, as Deutschlandfunk Kultur called him, is constantly taking new and innovative paths: Bosch frequently develops new concert and event formats and conducted the world’s first freely accessible live internet broadcast (“Salome” in Aachen) in 2008. In 2012 the first opera premiere broadcast live in cinemas (“Tristan and Isolde” in Nuremberg). With the Nuremberg Klassik Open Air, he repeatedly led the largest classical music event in Europe.

Marcus Bosch maintains a stylistically broad concert and opera repertoire from the baroque to the modern. He has been responsible for numerous premieres and worked with influential directors such as Peter Konwitschny, Calixto Bieito and Stéphane Braunschweig as well as internationally known singers and instrumental soloists.
